Sometimes the most meaningful acts of community care come from those who are youngest among us.
More than a year after the Eaton Fire, many local families are still navigating the long road to recovery and remain in need of essential support. Elijah Wong, a fourth grader from South Pasadena, wanted to help.
As part of a service-learning “Changemaker Challenge,” Elijah connected with the Pasadena Educational Foundation to learn how he could best support students impacted by the fire. After discussing current needs with PEF, Elijah chose to focus his efforts on raising funds for gift cards that could help provide food, groceries, and other essentials directly to students and families.
Over the following months, Elijah raised $750 from friends and family and used those funds to purchase gift cards for local students and families in need. The gift cards will be distributed through Pasadena Unified schools to support families continuing to rebuild and recover.
Elijah’s kindness, initiative, and compassion are a powerful reminder that leadership and service can begin at any age.
We are deeply grateful to Elijah and his family for partnering with PEF to support PUSD students during this continued season of recovery. Every gift counts, and every act of care helps our community move forward together.
