A new backpack holds more than pencils, notebooks, and school supplies. It carries plans for the year ahead: new classes, new friends, fresh ideas, and plenty of possibilities.
Thousands of those possibilities were on display August 2, when students and families gathered at the Rose Bowl Stadium for the third annual Dena Community Backpack Giveaway.
Pasadena Educational Foundation was proud to join the Rose Bowl Stadium, Rose Bowl Institute, the City of Pasadena, Neighborhood Survants, L.A. Works, and other community partners for a day designed to help local students begin the school year prepared and confident. PEF partner The Walt Disney Company donated school supplies, and Disney VoluntEARS joined volunteers from across the community to help make the day possible.
Families received free backpacks filled with school supplies while students played games on the field, explored community resources, and enjoyed a special visit from YouTube star Blippi, who brought plenty of high-fives and excitement to the celebration.
The backpacks may have been the reason families came, but the day offered something more: a reminder that Pasadena and Altadena students have a community behind them as they take their next steps into a new school year.
