Robotics is reshaping our world and beyond.
Students in the Middle School Robotics program learn the core skills necessary to design, build, and program the robots of our future. With a focus on autonomous decision-making and friendly competition, students discover their ability to solve real-world problems faced in disaster relief, industrial automation, healthcare, and more. The school year culminates in an interschool Robotics competition, where students can exhibit their creative work and highlight their expertise for prestige (and prizes!)
Pasadena Educational Foundation, in partnership with the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), has supported middle school robotics for over 8 years.
The robots used in class are the LEGO Mindstorms NXT robot, and the programming languages taught is either RobotC or NXT-G, depending on the school. Classes are taught by PUSD math or science teachers. The teachers go through training supported by PEF. Classes are offered as electives during the day.
Through participating in PUSD middle school robotics, students learn more than just robotics. They learn skills in leadership, community involvement, communication, finding their passions, and teamwork, which will position them for success well beyond their school years.
Why Robotics Is Important to Me
“I really want to test my skills in technology and programming. And right now I think we can all say that we are really good at programing.”Casey
“I chose Robotics because it seemed to be the most intellectual, or most intellectual of all the electives. It seems to require most skills in computer programming which I have done before. And also just problem solving.”Tostin
“I chose Robotics because the world is changing and there is going to have to be people to help the less fortunate using robots and robots are the future of the world. It’s good to know about them.”Andrew
“I chose Robotics because it’s a fun class to learn and test your skills of programming and challenges that you have to overcome with a team and a partner.”James
Support innovation in our schools!
Middle School Robotics is one of the many ways the Pasadena Educational Foundation helps to create a vibrant and enriching educational experience for all public school children in Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre.
