Pankow Builders Shows What It Means to Build With Purpose

What may look like simple garden work is actually something much bigger. Every volunteer effort helps create spaces where students can learn, connect, and thrive. NC Inguanzo, Director of Community Engagement

This week volunteers from Pankow Builders spent time serving in the Muir High School garden, embodying their mission to “Build with Purpose” through hands-on support for school spaces that nurture learning, wellness, and community connection. What may seem like a simple act of weeding or garden maintenance becomes something much bigger when community members invest their time in creating spaces where students can learn, reflect, and grow. Whether a volunteer group is large or small, every effort contributes to the long-term care of places that matter deeply to students and educators.

Since Pankow’s first Muir garden volunteer service many years ago, the garden has continued to flourish thanks to the support of many community volunteers and corporate groups, including Warner Bros. Discovery, Target, and Bluebeam. What was already a special space has grown to include a native planting area, a walking labyrinth, a greenhouse, and expanded vegetable harvest areas that give students even more opportunities for hands-on learning, environmental education, and reflection.

At Pasadena Educational Foundation, we are grateful for supporters like Pankow Builders whose service leaves a lasting impact long after the volunteer day ends. The continued growth of the Muir garden is a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together to invest in our schools. Special thanks to Pankow Builders for supporting the learning of PUSD students.
