More Than A Dance – Prom Gear from NCL Pasadena for Families in Transition

“The Families in Transition Program is a vital resource and we are thrilled to support them in any way we can,” said Nancy Guyer, a representative from the Pasadena Chapter of the NCL. “We know that attending prom is a special moment for high school students, and we believe that every student deserves the chance to participate.”

Prom is a time to dress up, dance the night away, and celebrate the end of the school year. It’s also an opportunity for students to feel a sense of belonging and connection with their peers. For many high school students, it is a rite of passage.

However, not all students are able to participate in this important event due to financial constraints.  And with prom season quickly approaching, the Pasadena Chapter of the National Charity League (NCL) stepped in to help.

NCL Pasadena recently donated prom gear of all types and sizes, including dresses, suits, shirts, and shoes, to Pasadena Unified School District’s Families in Transition Program (FIT). FIT provides support to families experiencing homelessness or unstable housing situations within the district. This prom gear donation is just another way the NCL has partnered with the Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) to give back to our public school community.

The Families in Transition program provides a range of services and resources to families in need, including assistance with housing, transportation, and educational support. One of their goals is to ensure that every student has access to the same opportunities as their peers, including the chance to attend prom.

“We are so grateful for the support of the NCL and PEF,” said Sarah Bernal, FIT Program Coordinator. “For many of our students, attending prom is difficult. Thanks to this generous donation, many of our students will now be able experience this important milestone and create lasting memories.”

Special thanks to the Pasadena Chapter of the NCL for setting a wonderful example of volunteer service and partnership! We applaud their efforts and hope that their generosity inspires others to get involved and support their local communities.
