Learning, Leading, and Bringing New Ideas Home: 2026 LA County Philanthropy Summit

“Our Board of Directors plays an important role in helping tell PEF’s story,” said Monica Bosserman Lopez, PEF’s Sr. Director of Strategic Initiatives. “When board members are informed, engaged, and connected to your mission, they become some of your strongest ambassadors in the community.”
At the Pasadena Educational Foundation, we believe that strengthening public education also means investing in our own learning. That’s why PEF staff participated in the 2026 Los Angeles County Philanthropy Summit, where education foundation leaders from across the region gathered to share ideas, discuss emerging trends, and explore new ways to increase their impact. These opportunities allow PEF to learn from peers, build meaningful partnerships, and bring fresh strategies back to support our Pasadena Unified schools.

PEF had the opportunity to contribute to the conversation. Monica Bosserman Lopez, PEF’s Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives, led a breakout session titled “Leveraging Board Members as Ambassadors,” sharing how PEF empowers its Board of Directors to become informed advocates for the organization’s mission. Rather than viewing board service as limited to governance, the session explored how nonprofit boards can become active partners in community engagement by building relationships, sharing authentic stories, and opening doors to new opportunities.

As PEF continues to strengthen partnerships throughout Pasadena, participating in gatherings like the LA County Philanthropy Summit keeps the organization connected to new ideas while providing opportunities to share practices that strengthen education foundations and other organizations supporting public education across the region.
