The Logic Lounge has become an appreciated part of Hamilton Elementary’s campus. With the support of a PEF Teacher Grant, teacher Tamyke Edwards has created a haven of puzzles and logic games designed to spark curiosity and stretch students’ thinking.
The open-ended puzzles and games ask students to think creatively and stick with a problem even when the answer isn’t obvious. That kind of challenge builds important skills: pattern recognition, abstract reasoning, and the ability to make unique logical connections.
The trial-and-error nature of the games gives students a low-pressure space to practice something harder to teach: how to be wrong and keep going. For some students, that makes an impactful difference. Working through a tough puzzle without a clear right answer helps ease the pressure of perfectionism in a way that complements the rest of their learning.
Edwards notes that logic-based tasks have a way of revealing creativity and problem-solving ability that doesn’t always show up on a standard assessment, making the Logic Lounge a valuable addition to Hamilton Elementary’s learning environment.
