Sierra Madre Elementary teacher Donna Wallius has always gone above and beyond for her first grade students. With limited locked storage at school, she kept the majority of her classroom supplies at home, hauling in copy paper one ream at a time and even taking headphones home nightly to sanitize them, so her students always had what they needed, well-maintained and ready to use. When the Eaton Fire took her home, it took those supplies too. PEF assisted with a Teacher Grant to help Wallius rebuild her classroom and keep the learning going.
With her grant, Wallius restocked her classroom with new and replacement supplies. In her classroom, her students spent the rest of the semester exploring sound with slinkies and tuning forks, investigating light with mirrors and flashlights, and even testing how much moisture a cloud can hold with pipettes. Wallius was incredibly thankful for the refresh in supplies crucial for her curriculum.
