There are plenty of people working behind the scenes to get PUSD schools ready for students each day. They open campuses, keep facilities running, make repairs, clean classrooms and hallways, move equipment, solve problems, and take care of countless details most of us never see.
Last Thursday, some of those behind-the-scenes staff got a pretty good view from the stands.
Thanks to the Los Angeles Chargers, PEF received 100 tickets to the Chargers’ preseason matchup against the San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium. PEF shared the tickets primarily with PUSD Maintenance & Operations staff, including custodial, facilities, and other employees whose work helps keep schools safe, welcoming, and ready for students every day.
And for one evening, they were officially off duty.
No work orders. No campus repairs. No getting a school ready for the next morning. Instead, it was football, friends and colleagues, and a summer night inside one of the most spectacular stadiums around.
PEF and PUSD Communications staff got to join in the fun, too, bringing together colleagues who support PUSD schools and students in very different ways.
The night was the latest example of the Los Angeles Chargers showing up for the PUSD community. Last summer, the Chargers donated tickets that gave Pasadena High School and John Muir High School football players and coaches the chance to experience a game at SoFi. In December, the Chargers Impact Fund helped surprise second- and third-grade students at Washington Elementary STEM Magnet with brand-new bikes and helmets. This time, the invitation went to another important part of the PUSD team.
Schools don’t run without the people who take care of them. Much of that work happens outside the spotlight. On this night, the Chargers gave some of those staff members a chance to sit back, look out across SoFi, and simply enjoy the view.
PEF is grateful to the Los Angeles Chargers for 100 tickets, a terrific night out, and for continuing to find different ways to connect with and support the PUSD community.
Sometimes, supporting our schools even comes with really good seats.
