In the immediate aftermath of the Eaton Fire, the Pasadena Educational Foundation mobilized volunteers to support critical relief efforts. Last Friday, January 17, 2025, PEF volunteers joined forces with the Pasadena Unified School District’s Farm to School Program at Madison Elementary to distribute essential supplies and produce to over 1,000 affected families.
The Eaton Fire, still not fully contained, has had a profound impact on our entire community. The Pasadena Teacher’s Union has reported that nearly 20% of teachers in the area had their living situations impacted, with 10% losing their homes and another 10% displaced. Over 10,000 Pasadena Unified School District students have been affected by the fire, with nearly 1,000 families losing their homes. And despite personal hardships of their own, volunteers rallied to assist the school district, demonstrating remarkable resilience and dedication to each other.
“The response to our call for volunteer help was inspiring,” said Nancy Carol Inguanzo, PEF’s Community Engagement Manager. “At one of the most dire moments in our community’s history, there were so many who stepped up to serve our families. We are incredibly grateful for their support.”
All told, PEF volunteers’ efforts helped ensure that PUSD families received food, water, and other necessary supplies, showcasing strength and unity during this time of crisis. As the community continues on the path to recovery, ongoing volunteer support will remain crucial in helping families and schools rebuild and thrive in the months ahead.
