Everyone loves a nice snack, especially during the summer. Our PEF Summer Enrichment Program offered a variety of cooking classes to our students to teach them tasty new recipes that they can cook year-round!
Garden to Table Cooking was a fun mix of natural science and cooking. The elementary students raised their own produce from seed and sprout to harvest, learning all about plants, ecology, and how people get the food they eat. Cooking with the food they grew gave students a summer filled with both yummy and rewarding meals.
Kitchen Quest‘s menu for the summer was centered on nutritious meals that were easy to make. From refreshing snacks like cucumber salad to hearty, quick entrees like Korean veggie pancakes, elementary students explored different cultures and learned cool things about them through their food.
Joy of Cooking / Chef University worked with middle schoolers of all skill levels to build their confidence in the culinary arts. For beginners, Joy of Cooking used math and science to explain the techniques behind cooking and make it more approachable. Advanced chefs had a blast at Chef University learning more challenging dishes and techniques from around the world. With the skills they built up over the summer students participated in a Master Chef challenge at the end of the summer, competing to wow the judges the most.
