Supporting Equitable Access to COVID Testing

Pasadena Unified School District distributed at-home COVID test kits to the parents of students last week in an effort to give all of our community’s families equitable access to rapid COVID testing.

Pasadena Educational Foundation volunteers were key in this effort along with the collaborative support from some of our non-profit community partners, including the PTSA District Council of PUSD and the Department of Nursing at Azusa Pacific University. Nine PUSD schools received support from almost 50 PEF volunteers. Now thousands of PUSD families have access to testing for COVID from home.

Testing is important for many reasons, but most importantly, it is key to helping stop the virus’s spread. Knowing one is positive for COVID means knowing it is necessary to stay home… thus protecting those who may be at higher risk.  Having immediate access to testing gives parents and students “peace of mind” while allowing our public schools to remain open for in-person instruction.

Read about when to use rapid at-home test kits and see a “how to” video here.
