Recently employees from our many Pasadena-area Starbucks stores volunteered to support the efforts of Pasadena Educational Foundation and Pasadena Unified School District to advance food equity and offer more green spaces for our children.
Starbucks staffers from around the area stepped up to serve with PEF at several events. That’s why they are our September/October Volunteers of the Month!
By volunteering to glean produce from CalFresh and the Los Angeles Food Bank, Starbucks staff have helped promote healthy eating and have fresh produce distributed to PUSD families. Apples, strawberries, pluots, and veggies from PUSD school gardens were organized and boxed with cheer by Starbucks volunteers. Needless to say, they handled this food service with aplomb.
In the Muir High School garden, Starbucks employees planted trees, performed garden maintenance, and helped Jill McArthur, PUSD Master Gardener, and Amigos de Los Rios further local efforts to reestablish Olmstead’s Emerald Necklace. Planting trees, tending to fruits and vegetables, and doing much needed garden work is required to keep our school gardens growing for our students.
Having volunteer groups like this one from our local Starbucks stores is essential. With 10 school gardens to maintain and monthly produce distribution, there’s a lot of ground to cover. Their service goes a long way towards making great food and green spaces a part of our families’ daily lives.
Our next produce preparation and distribution dates are Tuesday and Wednesday, December 14 & 15, 2021. Learn more here.
Garden Days for groups are scheduled in advance. Currently we have a few Saturdays open in January and February.
If you have a group that would like to assist in these efforts, please contact NC Inguanzo at ncinguanzo@pasedfoundation.org.
