PASADENA, CA – The Pasadena Tournament of Roses®, along with the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation, celebrated the Big Day for Teachers by honoring Don Benito Elementary School teacher Ms. Christine Sandoval with a $1,000 DonorsChoose gift card to use toward student resources. The Big Day for Teachers is a part of the CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Week, which celebrates educators across the country.

Ms. Sandoval has been at Don Benito for 20 years and is a cherished member of the school community. Her positivity builds great rapport with colleagues, students and their families which is evident through the large number of families and students that return to stop by and say hello. Ms. Sandoval currently teaches 3rd grade but has taught a wide range of grades while at Don Benito from kindergarten to 5th grade.

Ms. Sandoval has served on many schoolwide activities including teaching an after school Extended Learning Opportunity class. She has been on the School Site Council where she served as secretary, acted as the site Technology Lead Teacher, helped organize the school Talent Show, supported student learning for the African American History Bee, and more.

“We are proud to work alongside the College Football Playoff Foundation, the Tournament of Roses, and the Pasadena Educational Foundation to recognize PUSD’s outstanding teachers and advance student achievement,” said Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Elizabeth J. Blanco, Ed.D.

The Pasadena Tournament of Roses Vice President Mark Leavens presented Sandoval with a DonorsChoose Gift Card in a surprise visit to the Don Benito Elementary School.

The CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Week is a nine-day celebration, from September 14-21, that honors and recognizes great teachers. Throughout the week, the college football community, including universities, conferences, bowl games and ESPN, goes out of its way to let teachers know they are valued and respected.
