Hundreds of choir students gathered in Pasadena for America Sings, a special regional choral festival that combined music with meaningful service. During the event, participating singers assembled 400 toiletry bags filled with essential items and handwritten notes of encouragement. The supplies, funded by the Pasadena Educational Foundation, were donated to PUSD’s Families in Transition program and the Eaton Fire Collaborative to support students and families facing housing instability or recovering from the impacts of the Eaton Fire.
America Sings brings school choirs together for a day of rehearsal, collaboration, and performance, emphasizing shared learning and the joy of singing rather than competition. Schools from across the region participated in the February 27–28 event, hosted at Pasadena High School, where students worked side by side preparing the care kits before taking the stage.
Pasadena Unified School District choirs took part in the festival, reflecting the strength of PUSD’s vocal music programs. The event culminated in a public performance outside Pasadena City Hall, where singers shared the music they had prepared together. By pairing their voices with a volunteer project supporting fellow students and families, these young singers demonstrated how the arts can bring people together while making a tangible difference.
