For PUSD’s aspiring members of the theater, having a chance to witness the performing arts in person is vital to build up their personal experience. For Quiana Turner’s sixth grade theater class, that personal experience came with a fun holiday twist. With her field trip grant Turner brought her class to A Noise Within’s production of “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol”.
A Noise Within is a major landmark of the performing arts within the Pasadena community and for many of Turner’s students this was their first time at the venue. Seeing the professional production of “Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol”, the students were wowed by both the performances and the set design.
“During the intermission and after the show, the drama students were in a tizzy evaluating the stage design, lighting, and costumes. They were inspired. I was inspired.”
– Quiana Turner, McKinley
After seeing such an amazing professional production, Turner’s sixth graders were eager to begin their next theater project, with conversations starting as early as the bus ride back to McKinley. With their Spring musical, “The Little Mermaid, Jr.”, coming soon many of the kids are already preparing to audition for different roles both on and off stage. We are incredibly excited to see the McKinley students’ future productions.
