More than Warm Wishes – Curbside Holiday Meals

By Nancy Carol Inguanzo | Volunteer & Engagement Manager

The holidays come with countless expectations – from family gatherings to shiny gifts to office parties. This year our expectations were altered, given the global COVID-19 pandemic. Most focused on the meaning of the holidays, tried to find joy in simplicity, and gave the usual seasonal run-around a break, as we were instructed to do.

Frivolous notions aside, one thing we should expect is to have something to eat. Yet near record numbers of families in our community are battling food insecurity. Some for the first time ever.

PUSD Food Services and volunteers from Pasadena Educational Foundation stepped in to care for those hardest hit in our community yet again. Over the school district’s winter break, two days were set aside for food distribution to ensure families had nourishing meals. Over 6,000 meals were served.

As we move into a new year, we all wish for better times. But in days like these, more than warm wishes are needed. Supporting the entire community, especially those hardest hit, is the promise of a better future. Let’s move towards fulfilling that promise together… one good deed at a time.

Thank you, PUSD Food Services and PEF Volunteers.
