Robotics is reshaping our world and beyond.

Students in the Middle School Robotics program learn the core skills necessary to design, build, and program the robots of our future.  With a focus on autonomous decision-making and friendly competition, students discover their ability to solve real-world problems faced in disaster relief, industrial automation, healthcare, and more. The school year culminates in an interschool Robotics competition, where students can exhibit their creative work and highlight their expertise for prestige (and prizes!)

Pasadena Educational Foundation, in partnership with the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), has supported middle school robotics for over 8 years.

The robots used in class are the LEGO Mindstorms NXT robot, and the programming languages taught is either RobotC or NXT-G, depending on the school.  Classes are taught by PUSD math or science teachers. The teachers go through training supported by PEF. Classes are offered as electives during the day.

Through participating in PUSD middle school robotics, students learn more than just robotics. They learn skills in leadership, community involvement, communication, finding their passions, and teamwork, which will position them for success well beyond their school years.

Why Robotics Is Important to Me

Robotics class has hands-on activities, they get to program, to design things, and they see the results right away. Not only are they learning programming but also learning math, science, and all kinds of engineering programming languages.”
