Joann Kozyrev is the Dean of Extended Studies at ArtCenter College of Design. A committed advocate for accessible and impactful education, she brings over 10 years of experience leading the development of successful degree, non-degree, and certificate programs that leverage emergent technologies and address evolving labor market demands. She is a pioneer in skills-based education and has expertise in using data analytics to inform learning innovation and personalized learning progress and pathways in ways that minimize bias and increase opportunity.
Previously, Joann was Vice President for Learning Design at Western Governors University (WGU) and the Executive Director of Learning Innovation at University of Texas System. In these roles, she led the design and development of hundreds of innovative online and hybrid programs in disciplines such as health sciences, cybersecurity and IT, business and management, and education. A strong proponent of collaborative leadership, she fostered strong partnerships with faculty and industry experts and is committed to building a culture of teamwork, innovation, and accountability within the Extended Studies division.
Joann’s Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language is from The Pennsylvania State University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Russian and English is from Juniata College and she also has certificates in strategic foresight/futures thinking, systems thinking, and design-thinking. She has written on educational innovation for The Sage Handbook of Higher Education Instructional Design, The Journal of Futures Studies, The Evolution, and The Journal of Competency Based Education.
She grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch country, but has lived in ten states. She loves languages and speaks Russian well, is learning Spanish, and knows a smattering of Polish.
