Two deeply valued members of the Pasadena Educational Foundation community, Lorna Miller and Alma Stokes, were recently recognized at Young & Healthy’s “Rooted in Care” founders luncheon for their lasting contributions to children and families in Pasadena. Their connection to both organizations reflects the strong partnership that helps support PUSD students beyond the classroom. Young & Healthy is a key partner in PEF’s work to support student wellbeing, helping ensure children are healthy and ready to learn.
Lorna Miller helped plant the seeds of what would become Young & Healthy more than three decades ago. Working alongside Dr. Donald Thomas, she was part of the original group of community leaders who responded to a clear need: too many Pasadena children were growing up without access to medical care. Their vision grew into the robust network of volunteer physicians and partners that continues to support local families today.
Alma Stokes was also recognized for her longstanding commitment to Young & Healthy’s mission and to the broader wellbeing of Pasadena students. Known for her deep roots in Pasadena Unified and her steady advocacy for children, Alma has consistently helped bridge the worlds of education, health, and community support.
Both women have given many years of service to the Pasadena Educational Foundation board, helping advance PEF’s work to ensure every PUSD student has the opportunity to thrive. Their recognition at the luncheon reflected decades of quiet leadership and sustained commitment to Pasadena’s children.
Young & Healthy also presented its J. Donald Thomas Award to Huntington Health, honoring the hospital’s enduring partnership in caring for Pasadena’s youth.
PEF is proud to stand alongside vital partners like Young & Healthy and grateful for leaders such as Lorna and Alma, whose care for Pasadena’s children continues to make a lasting difference in our community.
