Thirty-eight students from Blair High and Middle Schools spent the day discovering new possibilities in science and health careers at the BioScience LA event on October 15 at Pasadena City College’s Westerbeck Recital Hall. Students were encouraged to challenge themselves and view bioscience not just as a technical field, but as one that is creative, impactful, and deeply connected to improving people’s health and wellbeing.
Throughout the day, students engaged with professionals across the field during interactive panels and networking sessions. The first panel, “If I Can See It, I Can Be It – Real Stories from Bioscience Careers,” was facilitated by Pasadena City Councilmember Tyrone Hampton, offering valuable insight into real-world career pathways in science and technology.
Blair students from the 8th grade and the Health Careers Academy also toured the Armen Sarafian Building, Pasadena City College’s state-of-the-art science facility featuring labs, classrooms, and offices for the Health Sciences and Natural Sciences divisions. The tour gave students a firsthand look at working labs and the day-to-day research, technology, and collaboration that drive progress in the biosciences.
PEF was proud to support Blair’s participation, ensuring students could take part in this meaningful experience. Events like this reflect PEF’s mission to build strong connections between Pasadena Unified schools and the broader community, helping students explore their potential and envision bright futures in STEM and beyond.
