As part of a heartfelt project led by Ms. Liane, students in her art classes designed and created personalized care packages for staff members at Thurgood Marshall Secondary School who lost their homes in the Eaton Fire. Guided by a desire to provide comfort through their creative talents, the students poured their time, skill, and compassion into each handmade gift.
All of the artwork featured—including the logos on the bags, mugs, and pillows—was student-designed. Seventh-grade students crafted traditional worry dolls meant to help ease anxiety, while high school students took the time to research each recipient’s interests and created one-of-a-kind gifts tailored specifically for them.
This effort was made possible thanks to generous support from DonorsChoose.org and the Pasadena Educational Foundation (pasedfoundation.org).
Every Thurgood Marshall staff member whose home was destroyed in the fire received a care package. The students not only created the items with care but were also eager to personally deliver them and experience the emotional reactions of the recipients firsthand. The gesture was a moving display of community, strength, and solidarity.
