For Altadena Arts Magnet, moments of community through art are cherished after the Eaton Fire. This year at PEF’s Celebrating Our Schools event, Altadena Arts students welcomed guests to join them in thanking the wonderful community of donors supporting the Eaton Fire Response Fund. Thousands of people sent their heartfelt notes of support, and our community wanted to send their own notes of gratitude in return.
Guests were given a selection of seven postcards to choose from with each card being a different art piece created by an Altadena Arts student. Each card was then paired with an envelope premarked with one of our donors’ addresses. From local Pasadena residents, to student councils in the Midwest, and even donors from Britain and Germany, our community received donations and heartfelt messages from so many places. Event goers wrote their heartfelt thanks on these Altadena postcards and at the end of the night PEF made sure that every card was mailed back.
Currently, the school is displaced from their home campus and are residing at the Allendale campus. Many of these students have also lost their homes in addition to not being able to return to their home campus. One of our student artists, Lucca G., even drew her family home that was lost in the fire as her postcard art. Through these postcards these young artists are able to connect with a wider community that supports them by sharing both their art and the thanks of their community to the wider world.
