On February 7, 2025, students from four PUSD high schools walked out in support of immigrants. When I first heard that students were planning a walkout I was excited, not because I would be skipping school but because we would be making a positive impact in our community.
After the devastating Eaton fire that hit our city, seeing so many students walk out and protest at Pasadena City Hall for such a good cause was refreshing. The ongoing news about the President’s executive orders regarding deportation felt like the perfect time to take a stand and protest.
As a Muir student, we were the last school to walk out at 1:55 pm. Many students walked in Mexican jerseys and other Latin countries, flags, and signs. Even staff walked with us for safety and also to stand in solidarity. What would normally be a 1-hour long walk felt like half the time. The exhilaration of the whole event made the walk much easier and so many cars honked in support. Once we got to city hall the other students welcomed us.
The sense of community was unlike anything I’ve felt before. We danced, chanted, and sang together as one. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that filled me with joy and hope for the future.
