A Dinner Party at No Boundaries 2024

A special PEF Teacher Grant will be featured at the annual PUSD art exhibition No Boundaries: The Dinner Party.

Based on Judy Chicago’s famed 1979 Dinner Party, a reinterpretation of the Last Supper from those who have done the cooking throughout history, Pasadena Unified School District students envisioned a more inclusive version featuring 18 diverse women. Altadena Arts Magnet students created the dinner plates, Norma Coombs students fashioned the goblets, and Marshall Secondary middle and high school students painted the glass bowls and fabric banners. Just as the original Dinner Party was handcrafted by hundreds of women in an effort to elevate women’s “handiwork,” (ceramics and embroidery were considered women’s crafts and not seen in galleries.), over 200 PUSD students took part in this reimagining of an installation artwork widely regarded as the first epic feminist artwork and functions as a symbolic history of women in civilization.
