Books Come Alive at Madison’s Halloween Parade

By Tony Gordo, PEF Programs Manager

This Halloween, Madison Elementary School hosted a Book Character Literacy Parade that helped celebrate characters of children’s favorite books. Dr. Elisa Perez, the school’s principal, helped welcome parents and guest judges from the community to award students for their creative, fun, and thoughtful costumes. It was a wonderful day and I was honored to be a judge.

Guest judges from the Pasadena Unified School District and the City of Pasadena joined me including: Interim Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Blanco, Dr. Shannon Malone, Hilda Ramirez Horvath, Dr. Helen Hill, Dr. Julie Reynoso, Dr. Roberto Hernandez, and Vannia De La Cuba.

Plus, the parade had a special guest judge: Lisa Barrios, Field Representative for Councilmember Justin Jones. Ms. Barrios made a return visit as Madison’s 2023 Principal for a Day.

But the fun did not stop there! Students also showcased special decorative pumpkins in the contest.

A special thanks to Madison’s parents, teachers, and students for hosting a special morning and inviting guests from the community.
