Celebrating 15 years of providing our community’s children an exciting summer opportunity to create, explore, and learn. Through a unique mix of academic subjects combined with hands on activities our students can learn to cook, explore a new language, build a rocket, write a play, program a robot, learn tennis, design with 3D printers, and so much more!
Students in our 5-week program are inspired while having fun learning as their classes prepare them for the upcoming school year. Keep your children’s minds and bodies active during the summer with great classes that build skills while keeping the school break fun. On average, students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math and reading. Courses are taught by some of the finest educators in the Pasadena area with multi-subject credentials or professional expertise.
Some of our most popular classes include:
- Space Engineering
- Art Studio
- 3D Printing
- French
- Spanish & Mandarin Dual Language Immersion

Volunteers
For the 2017 program we hosted over 100 dedicated adult and teen Volunteer Classroom Assistants provided hands-on support to our students and teachers. This summer our volunteers again have opportunity to serve as experts and mentors in their chosen field, explore career options in teaching and administration, and fulfill community service hours required for graduation. Competitive internships are also available to PUSD College and Career Academy students and to others who complete the full-five weeks of the program. Weekly staff-lead discussions will support volunteers as they become school community leaders.
Outreach
Through active community engagement campaigns, activities, events, and initiatives PEF builds dynamic community connections to support the public schools of Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre. Our Principal for a Day program has seeded many partnerships and projects such as the restoration of an historic mural at McKinley, and helps increase the visibility of the myriad wonderful programs happening in our schools to the community at large. The nationally recognized Realtor Initiative provides opportunities for realtors to learn more and get further connected to our schools. We welcome other Community Ambassadors to help us spread the word.

Services
PEF provides grantwriting services to PUSD that have assisted with raising more than $5 million annually. Grants are for initiatives that provide parents and students with a high level of school choice and quality, family and community services, college readiness, and innovative programs. From large Federal Magnet Grants or California College & Career Pathways Grants to smaller grants to fund a ceramics artist or grow a school-community garden, the grants PEF has secured have supported arts, sports and athletics, health, STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), college scholarships, teacher training, and many other programs in PUSD. We provide fundraising and accounting support to nearly every school’s Annual Fund, enabling schools to more efficiently raise community dollars to meet immediate needs. Schools are now raising a collective total of over $700,000 in their annual funds.
