Breaking Ground with C5LA Youth Leadership Team

” I enjoyed working side by side with this group of young people who took on the hard work and made the day enjoyable.” –Katia Ahmed, Farm to School Coordinator

As part of our new Volunteer Team Initiative, we welcomed 50 students from across LA County in the C5LA Youth Leadership Program to break ground in Washington Middle School’s new edible garden, part of PUSD’s Farm to School Program. C5LA is a 5-year youth leadership program that carries students from 8th grade through 12th.

Our district’s award winning Farm to School program is about building and growing a healthy school environment. It is made possible via a partnership between PUSD, the Pasadena Gardens Conservancy, and the Pasadena Educational Foundation.

The Pasadena Educational Foundation is committed to helping maintain our school gardens through community service. If you would like to be involved as a regular garden volunteer, or as part of an organized day of service, please reach out, we have a garden just for you!

The volunteers said their favorite part was “Knowing how much we helped out the community”, “making a difference in the community” and “The feeling of knowing you helped out a school in need”
