Our School Gardens Are Growing at Franklin Farms

Our newest school community garden, Fox Farms, is now open at Franklin Elementary School. The garden was developed thanks to a grant from the Pasadena Community Gardens Conservancy to the Pasadena Educational Foundation and the Pasadena Unified School District. The grants support school gardens to improve family health and nutrition, enhance science education, and help increase parental involvement in our PUSD schools.

This newest educational food community garden, which promotes healthy nutrition and physical activity, will serve as an outdoor classroom for Franklin students and enrich science learning. Franklin Elementary School teachers, trained in Farm-to-School curriculum, will lead students through lessons in seeds and germination, soils, insects, gardening, harvesting, and nutrition; classes will use the garden for teaching and learning.

PUSD has 17 active school gardens, with another scheduled for a ground-breaking at Pasadena High School in January 2017. Come out to Fox Farms and see what PUSD is growing.
