What is the Pasadena Educational Foundation?
The Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF) is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 1971, to enhance educational programs in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD). Tax ID# 23-7149451

Is PEF connected to the school district?
PEF is organized as a completely separate entity from the PUSD.

What does PEF do?
PEF has a long history of providing and supporting programs that are critical to strengthening the PUSD by building academic excellence and supporting the health and wellbeing of our students. It does this by raising funds, building partnerships, and promoting public education that directly supports teachers and students. Programs that are supported by grants and donations secured by PEF include arts and music, technology, after school, science laboratories at middle and high schools, reading, early childhood, health services, and much more.

Who benefits from PEF’s work?
Students, parents, teachers, and staff of the public schools of Altadena, Pasadena,
and Sierra Madre, as well as the entire community at large.

How can I donate to the Foundation?
You can:
• Make a cash or stock gift of any amount.
• Make a donation of a gift-in-kind, securities, or real estate.
• Designate your United Way gift to PEF.
• Ask your employer to match your gift to PEF.
• Name PEF as a beneficiary in your will/trust or insurance policy.
• Name PEF as your charity of choice through Vroman’s Give Back Program

Gifts can also be made in honor or in memory of someone admired, respected, or remembered in a special way.

Is my gift to PEF tax deductible?
Yes, to the full extent of the law.

May I donate to a particular program?
Yes, you can designate your gift to a particular school or PUSD or PEF program. You may also contribute to one of our high school scholarship funds or to the Arts and Music fund.

Do you accept equipment and computers?
Please call us first to determine whether the schools can use your items. If they can, we will discuss terms of delivery.

How can PEF support my school?

How do I know that my gift to PEF is really going to help the schools?
PEF’s staff and its board of directors provide oversight to ensure that designated gifts reach the appropriate recipients.

Who contributes to the Foundation?
Gifts come in all sizes from individuals, businesses, corporate contribution programs, civic organizations, and foundations. Gifts range in amounts from $25 to $1 million and more.

How are Teacher Grants awarded?
A committee of PEF board members and community members read and evaluate each proposal based on set criteria. Committee recommendations are then made to the board of directors. See Teacher Grants for guidelines and scoring rubric.

If I am a teacher and have previously received a PEF teacher grant, am I eligible to apply for another?
Funding will not be awarded to the same individual teacher for two consecutive years. However, a teacher receiving an individual award one year may be part of a team applying for an eligible project the next year. In order to be considered for the subsequent year you must have completed the evaluation for the prior grant.
